An exciting new £20 million housing development is set to deliver high quality new market sale and affordable homes on a derelict site in Bury.
Planning permission has been secured to build 109 new homes on the old Cussons Soap factory on Kersal Vale Road, which closed almost a decade ago. The site has become dilapidated and a blight on the neighbourhood. Of the 109 new homes, 65 homes will be delivered for market sale through Cube Homes, 26 will be sold through Shared Ownership with the remaining 18 being let at affordable rents by Great Places Housing Association.
The scheme has been carefully designed to create a high quality, sustainable setting for the new homes. The scheme has been designed to make the most of views over the River Irwell. Having acquired the site earlier in the year, the project will see extensive landscaping works on the site and neighbouring wooded area.

Chris Heath, Cube Homes’ Managing Director, said: “The site has been a point of consternation and something of an eyesore.
“Our development will transform the site with green spaces, enhanced woodland and quality new housing.
“We are bringing our signature design to this site, inspired by our current development at Fairways View on the edge of Prestwich golf course. This will be a fantastic place for our customers to live; aspirational homes in a mature landscaped setting.
He added: “Our team has worked closely with the Local Authority to develop a design which makes the most of the excellent location, and as well as new aspirational homes, the project will bring added benefits to the local and wider community in the form of new cycle way connectivity, road safety measures and wider investment in Manchester’s existing environmental corridor.”
Helen Spencer, Director of Development at Great Places, said: “This site is a key part of our extensive development programme in the North West in the coming years.
“It is a shining example of how we are bringing mixed tenure housing solutions to market and turning an eyesore into a much-needed housing development that will have a positive benefit for the local community.”
Work on the development is expected to begin in December 2019 and should be completed in Spring 2022.
